For thousands of years, perhaps the most popular destination in Egypt are the Great Pyramids of Giza. If you plan to travel to Egypt, you’ll want to make sure your tour includes a Pyramid tour! These impressive landmarks date back to 2500 BC during the reign of Khufu. The largest is dedicated to Khufu himself, while the second largest to his son, Khafre and the smallest to his grandson, Menkaure. Make sure to stop by and say hello to the Great Sphinx which keeps an eye on the pyramids. Once you’re finished at the pyramids, a Cairo Tour is a must! Start at the Egyptian museum, and then allow yourself to be amazed by the beautiful mosques that are still in use throughout the city.

Take a Tour of Abu Simbel Temples

The Abu Simbel Temple complex is located overlooking Lake Nasser. The temples were dedicated to the Pharaoh Ramses II, and his Queen Nefertari. Shockingly, they lay unnoticed until 1813 when a Swiss Explorer discovered the Temples covered in sand! When the Aswan Dam was built, the Abu Simbel Temples were physically moved to make room for the rising water level. The Temples were built in 1200s BC by cutting into the solid rock cliff! According to scholars, the Temples were built to celebrate Pharaoh Ramses II’s victory over the Hittites at The Battle of Kadesh. The giant sculptures are clearly a representation of a Pharaoh with a force to be reckoned with.

The Bibliotheca Alexandrina is the city’s modern library – and still as impressive as ever. Make sure to take a tour of the library and learn about the demise of the ancient one…
